8th Flamingo's Langebaan WBMK Gymkhana 8

Date:
Saturday, November 6, 2010
Location:
Flamingo's Langebaan

Latest weather has conditions for Saturday as being Partly Cloudy with no rain. Minimum 12ºC and maxiumum 19ºC with a 19km/h SW wind in morning and 28km/h S in afternoon.

Thanks to the superb support of Jehan de Jongh and Danye Louw we will in fact have two world champions in action at Flamingo's on Saturday. One is a gravel expert the other very much a sealed surface expert and both have enjoyed international success.

Can see Jehan is back as the weather hints that it might provide something wet on Saturday! Sunrise at 05h43 at 12ºC with Sunset at 19h18 having reached a maximum of 18ºC during the day. Pack the sunscreen however as a 28km/h Westerley wind will still create suntan conditions throughout with a 30% chance of 2mm rain. Partly Cloudy with Rain normally sees somebody running dry whilst someone hits it wet. Strictly number order running to keep it fair for everyone. Take it as it comes but be prepared for both! Good response today regarding entries for Saturday, still missing a few familiar faces.

Important Notice! The 8th Flamingo's Restaurant and Dance Club Langebaan Gymkhana will indeed be recorded in full HD and many of the lessons learnt at Worcester will now be imrpoved upon at Langebaan. Worcester is making steady progress and will be completed within the next couple of days. An incredible amount of work have gone into perfecting this recording and it will be worth the wait!

Come guys and girls! We need a maximum and varied entry to make the venture worthwhile. Get you sponsor some valued exposure this Saturday! It is not simply about chasing championship positions, there is a real opportunity to gain exposure stepping into the sport and you can only benefit if you are present as a competing crew!

Please note that the Start Marshal for the 8th Flamingo's Restaurant and Dance Club Langebaan Gymkhana have picked up a puncture and may not be as mobile (not that he would have won the 100m sprint) as before. Do not know what hurts most, the embarrassment to admit that the injury was self inflicted or the fact that it is really quite painful. Being the final event of the season chances are that he is simply hinting for some sympathy! Hope to see you on your post Dewald!

Taking note of the concerns on tyre wear the Flamingo's crew will be sweeping the tarmac surface with a specially rented mechanical sweeper leading up to the final event of 2010. Advertisements in the Weslander newspaper also curtiousy of Flamingo's management. This is the type of dedication that makes André and Leona Vorster special to our sport and as such they deserve your support come Saturday.  If you have been a regular at Flamingo's you would have seen the newsflash on their big screen curtiousy of mark Pym and his student video crew! Fantastic news is that the HD video production is almost ready for submission and is currently being scripted for sound. The visual quality is superb, the footage even better and you will not be disappointed! Watch this space!  If you cannot compete then come and support those who are!

Bonus is the fact that we could see two world champions present at this event with the 2009 Pirelli Star Driver Champion in the WRC, Jon Williams, as well as the four time ROK Karting world champion, Wesleigh Orr, planning to attend this season closing event in support of local motorsport. Fantastic to see these stars of SA motorsport taking time out of their schedules to support motorsport at club level!

Incredibly another tough year is coming to a close and only one event remains on the 2010 Witzenberg Motorklub Gymkhana calender. The 8th Flamingo's Restaurant and Dance Club Langebaan Gymkhana is set to close the 2010 season with another stunning result on Saturday 6 November 2010 and despite reservations by many competitors regarding the course surface at this venue every effort will be made to prepare a "tyre friendly" event on the day.

Entries open tonight 19 October 2010 and a capacity entry is anticipated!

Flamingo's Restaurant and Dance Club Langebaan have become the central point for the Witznberg Motorklub Gymkhana Championship in recent years and the 2010 season will be completed at this popular venue with another humdinger event in the offing as every class is hotly contested.

Izak van Zyl and Danye Louw will start the 8th Flamingo’s Restaurant and Dance Club Langebaan Gymkhana as the 2010 Witzenberg Motorklub overall and class G champions in their Dynotech VW Golf MkII GTi 2.0 Turbo. Drama hit the popular duo when the Golf caught alight shortly before the start of the recent 3rd Mountain Mill Mall Worcester Gymkhana. Though damage looked extensive the car...

To most Wesleigh Orr might have been known as a competitor in Formula VW but chances are that none actually realised that at the age of just 22 years he was already a 4 times World Karting Champion! The good news is that the entire Western Cape gymkhana fraternity now know him as an extremely humble, extremely competitive motorsport personality willing to share his knowledge and...

Izak van Zyl and Danye Louw won the 8th Flamingo’s Restaurant and Dance Club Langebaan Gymkhana in convincing fashion on Saturday 6 November 2010. The Dynotech class G VW Golf GTi 2.0 Turbo posting fastest time of the day enroute to a sixth overall victory and a second consecutive WBMK Gymkhana Championship.

For 2009 Izak had Marcile Louw as navigator and won 5 of the...
